1.
Make Sure of a few things, such as your navigator window is open,
as well as your layers window,
if not simply select Window, then
find Navigator in the list, and select it. do the same for the
Layers window, or simply hit F7. After those windows are open,
proceed to step 2.

2.
File > New > Document Size 500pixels by 500pixels Background
color F4F4F4,
after you have set the BG to F4F4F4 make a new layer.
3.
select your ellipse tool.

after you have selected your ellipse tool, draw an oval similar
to the following. then continue to step 4.
|note* color does not matter,
as we will be changing this through blending options.|

4.
now right click on the layer you made the oval and select Blending
Options like the following picture

after you click that a new window will pop up. that looks like
this.

check the Drop Shadow option on the left side and input these settings.

after you have set those move on and then check the Inner Shadow
option and input these settings.

after you have finished up with these settings, then check the
Gradient Overlay Option and input these settings.

for the Gradient Colors, click on the colored part next to the
word "Gradient" and a
new window will pop up that looks
like this.

to change the colors of the gradient you just have to click on
the bottom slider tab, at either end, then below
the bar is a section
called "Stops" some options on it will become available,
click the one that says color
and use E90000 for the Foreground
or Left End and use AC0000 for the Background, or Right Color.
after you have set those values, and the gradient looks like the
above sample, type in a name for it,
and click the New Button,
it will save the gradient for future use. now move on to step 5.
5.
make a new layer, then select your line tool.
then make sure your line is set to 1 px thick.
and draw a T on the bugs back like this. make sure it goes off
the sides a bit, so you have some room to rearrange if needed.

now, after you get it just how you want it... hold CTRL and click
on the layer with the ellipse. and it should select
the oval, now
do CTRL + SHIFT + i and it will select the inverse. now make sure
you are on the layer with the
lines drawn on it.. and hit backspace.
and it will delete the unwanted lines. now proceed to step 6
6.
now that you have the bugs shape down, make another layer on top
of all of the current layers. then make some
small circles on
the bugs back, with the elliptical marquee tool .
just on 1 side of the line. like this.

now duplicate the layer by right clicking on the layer and selecting
duplicate layer. a window will pop up, just hit
enter. then do
Edit > Transform > Flip Horizontal

after you do that you will end up with something like this...

now, grab your Move Tool by hitting V and hold down Shift as you
Drag the dots to the other side of the line so
you were to get
something like this. then proceed to step 7
**holding down shift will keep it from straying to far up or down,
it holds it inline.**

7.
now, make a new layer below everything except your background layer
like this.

and get your elliptical marquee tool again and draw an oval behind
the bug body and fill it black
so it were to look like this.

after you have drawn the ellipse add some Drop Shadow to it by
right clicking the layer and selecting
blending options. use these
settings. after you add those settings move to the next step. 8.

8.
now we are going to create the shine on the lady bugs back. so
lets make a new layer in front of all of the
current layers we
have. so click the top most layer then hit the add new layer button
and it will create it
where it needs to be... now set your Foreground
color as White #FFFFFF. then use your ellipse tool,
and make a
selection similar to this.

now while the ellipse is still selected... grab your gradient tool,
and use the Foreground to Transparent

now while holding shift click about an inch above the selection,
and in the middle, then click and drag
down, to about a half of
an inch to the bottom of the selection, you should get something
like this.
after you have done this proceed to step 9.

9.
Make a new layer below the shine. now, we are going to make the
head. so grab your Rectangular
Marquee, and make a large black
box on the top of the T, keep in mind it's ok if it goes off the
sides we can always select inverse to delete what we don't need,
after you do that... you should
end up with something like this...
notice layer order.

now, CTRL + Click the bug body layer then Shift + CTRL + i, make
sure you are on the large box layer and
hit backspace. and you
should get something like this. after you have done this proceed
to step 10.

10.
now it's time to make the legs eyes, and feelers. lets start by
making a new layer, below the bug body.
now continuing with the
legs and feelers. grab your line tool again, but this time make
sure it's a 3 px
line instead of a 1 pixel line. and draw out
some legs like the following.

after you have done that... duplicate the layer, and again do Edit > Transform
> Flip Horizontal, hold
shift and drag them to the other side.
so they are pretty symmetrical.
after you do that you will have this. or at least something like
it.

after you do that, we are going to link then merge the 2 leg layers,
by selecting 1 layer. then click the
box to the right of the eye,
on the other leg layer and hit CTRL+E
** When you click in the little box right of the eye you will see
a little chain link **
now we are going to add a little drop shadow to the legs. by again
right clicking on the legs layer,
and clicking blending options.
and checking drop shadow, use these settings.
after you finish adding the shadow, continue to step 11.
11.
now it's time to draw the eyes and feelers, so firstly lets make
a new layer above the legs layer, for our feelers.
after you have
done that draw something similer to this... use a 1-3 px brush
doesn't matter because we will
be making it smaller with the free
transform tool.
no click edit > free transform and hold shift and make it slightly
smaller like this.
** Note if your free transform option is unavailable, hit V to
select your Move Tool, and then go back to
Edit>Free Transform
and Continue. **

now we are going to be mirroring the feeler just like we did with
the dots, and just like we did with the legs,
Edit > Transform > Flip
Horizontal. then merge the layers, just like before. after you
do that move onto step 12.
12.
it's time for the final step, the eyes!
to make the eyes, make a new layer on the very top, then make a
very small circle with the elliptical
marquee tool .
like this. note if you can't see the circle so well, use the navigator
to zoom in like i have.
after you have done this, make your foreground color white, and
select the foreground to transparent gradient,
and do something
like this.
then, duplicate the layer, then Just hold shift and drag it to
the other side, and you are done!
here is my final result!
