What is Spy ware?

Spyware is a small program file added to your computer by web site owners and builders to collect data about what kind of sites you visit. This data is collected and sold to marketers or used by the individual collecting the information to target their market. These small programs running in the background of your computer can slow your machine down over time if they are not removed.

Removing Spyware with Ad-Aware se

Start Ad-Aware program. You should check for updates once a week by clicking on the "Check for updates now" link.

A window will open with a button to "Connect" Click the button and and updates will run.



When the updates are complete start scan.



A window will open and give you 4 options to scan with. Choosing custom scan will allow you to pick the drives you want to scan. If you are a GMA Computer Solutions customer and your computer has been in our facility for spyware removal the custom scan settings have been set and you can skip this task.



Click on the link to "Select drives & folders to scan.



Choose the drives you would like to scan and click proceed.



Click the next button in the lower right corner and your scan will begin. Depending on your computer speed and the amount of data on your computer, the scan will take anywhere from 20 minutes to a couple hours.



When the scan is complete click the "Next" button to remove the spyware.



a list of spyware will be shown. RIGHT CLICK on the first check box. In the list that appears choose "Select All Objects" This will put a check mark next to each object.



Click next. A window will appear. Click OK. All selected objects will be removed.



You now have successfully removed the spyware and can now close the program by clicking the red X in the upper right hand corner.
